On Saturday night (8/9), I'll be on hand to emcee for an event called "Samba At Sunset" which is a benefit for SMART (Start Making a Reader Today). As the father of a 4 year old, I do the best that I can to read with my son each and every night before his bedtime. While he can recognize most numbers, and some letters as well, this is a very important developmental time for him. The neat thing is that when he's offered the option of reading a book with me or watching cartoons at night now, 9 times out of 10, he'll opt for the book. I really can't stress enough how important it is to read with your children. As a child growing up, my Mom forbade my brother and I to watch much TV. In the meantime, we read a lot of books, and I honestly feel much better off because of it. So, I'm hoping that you can make it out to this fun gala this weekend, and be a part of helping out a great cause.
Location: Smart Park Garage at NW 7th and NW Marshall, Pearl District (Portland)
