Widmer Bros. Oktoberfest

Get ready for Munich-style ales and German bratwursts as one of Portland’s most-loved Oktoberfest celebrations will take place Saturday, September 11 from 3 p.m. – 11:30 p.m., at Widmer Brothers Brewing Co.

Widmer Brother’s Oktoberfest is a tribute to the world-renowned celebration in Munich, Germany, which draws more than six million people annually during the 16-day festival. Widmer Brother’s version, although smaller in scale, is large in Oktoberfest spirit. The festival features a variety of craft beers, traditional German food, accordion players, and live music throughout the day. Each year, thousands of Oregonian’s attend the festival; this year’s celebration is expected to draw more than 5,000 craft beer fanatics.

Portland Art Museum Presents The Bible Illuminated: R. Crumb's Book of Genesis

For more than 40 years, comic book artist R. Crumb has produced an abundance of zany and irreverent characters, including the iconic Fritz the Cat. His impact on the underground comic world is immeasurable and his drawings have been highly influential to countless artists working in the contemporary art field today.

The exhibition features all 208 individual black-and-white drawings incorporating every word from all 50 chapters of Genesis. Illustrated in his signature bawdy style, Crumb's version puts an entirely new twist on The Bible. Labels and text panels will guide visitors to their favorite stories - from The Garden of Eden to Noah's Ark - and will explore drawing techniques and comic book production. Now through September 19th at the Portland Art Museum.
